Back to work!

Does something you really enjoy still count as work?

School has now begun again and I am in the full swing of English teaching, after school origami, preschool craft and evening dance classes. One of my the other volunteers here, Chambery came and took some photos for a sponsorship programme of my classes. The first is in Secondary school where I do substitute teaching as the school is a little understaffed  so I cover any absences with spoken English classes. Here is one of my favourite and better behaved eager classes 7A – they pick things up so much faster than my other classes and are a delight to teach.

This is taken in my 2nd standard class who I teach daily, their class teacher is also in the classroom to help with discipline. I help them work with the government textbook which is somewhat complex for their level. To make things more fun I teach them a new simple conversational question every week which we have put together into a small “drama” of two friends meeting that we also practice every day.

Currently we are doing a topic on ‘My school’ and learning about different areas; playground, restroom, office etc etc. Above we are preparing flashcards for a tour round the school the next day. The reason Morghanna has a shaved head is it’s customary in Hinduism to dedicate your hair to God on your 3rd and 5th birthday. Below is us gathered outside the school gates; I took a photo at each of the places we showed them. They were so excited to go into the higher secondary school’s (particularly the computer & science lab) and even more excited when I got all the photos printed to display in the classroom.
